§ Mrs. ChalkerA survey carried out by my Department during 1983 suggested that in a sample of 69 highway authorities in England and Wales, out of a total of 86 authorities consulted, the value of highway work undertaken by private contractors and direct labour organisations respectively in 1982–83 was as follows:544W structural maintenance classified as capital expenditure and (c) other capital expenditure, fir (i) motorways and (ii) trunk roads other than motorways.
