Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish in the Official Report on the basis of hospitals providing neonatal care the current provision of special care baby units and neonatal intensive care cot units in those hospitals.

As I indicated in my reply to the hon. Member on 12 December 1983 at column375 there are no units in Wales designated for neonatal intensive care. I understand thatspecial care baby units are located at the following hospitals:

District Health Authority Hospital
Clwyd H. M. Stanley, St. Asaph
Maelor General, Wrexham
East Dyfed Bronglais, Aberystwyth
West Wales General, Carmarthen
Gwent Nevill Hall, Abergavenny
Royal Gwent, Newport
Gwynedd St. David's, Bangor
Mid Glamorgan Bridgend General
East Glamorgan, Church Village
Merthyr General

District Health AuthorityHospital
Pembrokeshire Withybush, Haverfordwest
South Glamorgan St. David's, Cardiff
University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff
West Glamorgan Morrison
Neath General

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list in the Official Report for each of the years since 1979 any special financial allocations made by health authorities in Wales for the improvement of the levels of equipment provided for neonatal care.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The allocation of resources for the provision of such special facilities is a matter for the individual health authorities.
