§ Mr. PattieThe following table shows the number of staff newly employed in non-industrial grades in each of the last five financial years and in industrial grades for each of the last four financial years. Figures for industrial recruitment were not collated centrally until 1980. For comparison purposes and to illustrate the MOD's contribution to the reductions achieved in the size of the Civil Service since 1979, the table also shows figures for those leaving the Department over the same period.
