HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c368W
Mr. Nicholas Wintertort

asked the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission, on what basis the Commission decides the size of the annual budget for travel abroad by Select Committees.

Mr. Beith

The Commission's estimate for overseas travel by Select Committees is based on its view, of what is a reasonable and proper sum to be expended on this service, bearing in mind the level of such expenditure in past Sessions, the rising cost of overseas travel, and an appreciation of the likely rate of Select Committee activity in the financial year in question. At the request of the Commission, the Liaison Committee allocates the total resources available between individual Select Committees.
