HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c355W
52. Mr. Alexander

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he is satisfied with the degree of co-operation between his Department and United Kingdom non-governmental organisations.

Mr. Raison

I am satisfied that co-operation with nongovernmental organisations is an effective method of directing aid to the poorest people. In 1983–84 my Department channelled more than £16 million through British voluntary organisations in support of the British volunteer programme, for disaster and refugee relief, and for overseas development projects through the joint funding scheme.
