asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the latest position with regard to improvements to the motorway network in the north-west.

The contract for the four-mile length of the M65 between Whitebirk and Hyndburn is due to be completed by mid-1985. The latest position on planned improvements in the north-west is as follows:
