HC Deb 09 July 1984 vol 63 c386W
Mr. Gareth Wardell

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what progress has been made in determining the locus of responsibility for dealing with pollution from abandoned mine workings; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Following the Government's response to the Commission on Energy and Environment report "Coal and the Environment", a survey into the pollution problems caused by abandoned mines has been undertaken. The results are now being analysed. The determination of responsibility for dealing with such pollution will have to await the completion of this work.
