Mr. Maclennan

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will take steps to expedite the overdue payments due to Scottish fishermen who have successfully applied for grant assistance for the purchase of new fishing vessels from the European agricultural and fisheries guidance fund.

I understand that there was a temporary hold-up as a result of a redistribution of responsibilities among the Commission's administrative staff. I am advised that the difficulties have been largely overcome and that payments are again being made. We shall continue to impress upon the Commission the need for prompt payment of these grants.
