HL Deb 09 July 1984 vol 454 c748WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What level of self-sufficiency in dairy products they anticipate in the United Kingdom in the next five years.

The Minister of State, Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (Lord Belstead)

Figures published by the Milk Marketing Board inEEC Dairy Facts and Figures indicate that in 1982 in the United Kingdom we were 91 per cent. self-sufficient in butterfat and 131 per cent. self-sufficient in solids-not-fat. The level of self-sufficiency in future years will depend on many factors affecting both production and consumption and cannot be predicted reliably.
