HC Deb 06 July 1984 vol 63 cc299-300W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what has been the total expenditure on land drainage schemes in Wales since 1974.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Responsibility for agriculture in Wales was transfered to the Welsh Office on 1 April 1978 and I can give details only from that date.

Grant is available under the Land Drainage Act 1976 to the statutory bodies (water authority, internal drainage boards and local authorities) for the improvement of arterial drainage and the construction of flood defences, including tidal and urban flood protection. Grants are available also to farmers under farm capital grant schemes for the drainage of agricultural land. The total grant expenditure is:

Mr. Wyn Roberts

This information is not available.

Mr. Onslow

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what are the current projections of public expenditure on land drainage schemes in Wales.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Provision for capital expenditure for arterial drainage under the Land Drainage Act 1976 is as follows:

£
1984–85 3,635,000
1985–86 3,938,000
1986–87 3,942,000

Grant for field drainage under the farm capital grant schemes is not separately identifiable within the overall provision for these schemes.
