HC Deb 04 July 1984 vol 63 c172W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in the Official Report the location and anticipated commencement date of all road improvement schemes in the Grampian region; and what is the individual value of each scheme.

Mr. Ancram

Proposed schemes estimated to cost over £1 million each were listed in my reply to my hon. Friend's question on 5 April at column 651. Trunk road improvement schemes costing less than £1 million each are proposed as follows:

Scheme Estimated Cost* £
A952 Longtown Village 232,000
A952 North West of Blackwater 210,000
A952 Invernettie-Stirling Village 377,000
A92 North Donside Road Roundabout 120,000
A96 Dr. Gray's Hospital, Elgin 610,000
A96 Rumbuch Bridge Realignment 724,000
* November 1983 prices.

Starting dates will depend on the availability of funds and on the completion of any necessary statutory procedures.

Proposed improvements to non-trunk roads are a matter for Grampian regional council.

Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will increase the amount of money allocated for capital spending on the roads in the Grampian region in 1984–85 in the light of the damage caused by adverse weather conditions in 1983–84; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ancram

No. The allocation of finance for structural repairs to trunk roads is made following an annual assessment of requirements in each region. Allocation of money for repairs to non-trunk roads is decided by regional councils in the light of their overall capital consents and current expenditure budgets.
