HC Deb 04 July 1984 vol 63 c150W
Mr. William Powell

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many staff are employed in the assessment and collection of on-course betting duty; where these staff are located; and whether they are engaged in the administration and collection of any other betting and gaming duties.

Mr. Hayhoe

The estimated amount of staff effort devoted to the administration and collection of betting and gaming duties at 31March 1984 was the equivalent of 328 full-time staff. I regret that separate figures are not maintained for the assessment and collection of on-course betting duty. Staff engaged on this work are located at excise stations throughout the country wherever on-course betting operators function within station boundaries. They also undertake other work, including the administration and collection of other betting and gaming duties.
