15. Mr. Canavan

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the current balance of trade in manufactured goods.

Mr. Tebbit

In the first five months of this year there was a deficit of £1.4 billion. At the same time the current account as a whole was in surplus by £182 million.

16. Mr. Marlow

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry when he expects to respond to the report of the Trade and Industry Committee on the growth in the imbalance of trade in manufactured goods between the United Kingdom and existing and prospective members of the European Economic Community HC 461of 1983–84.
