HC Deb 04 July 1984 vol 63 c185W
Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he is satisfied with the quality and safety of imported electric light bulbs; and if he will reconsider the minimum standard specifications required in the United Kingdom in terms of both manufacture and materials used.

Mr. Fletcher

I am satisfied that the quality and safety of electric lamps is in general satisfactory, although my Department has on a number of occasions been called to investigate complaints, not all of which related to imported lamps. Standards are a matter for the British Standards Institution, but at present I have no evidence of a need to revise the British standard for lamps.
