asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the rate of increase in the own resource base of the Common Market in each of the past four years.

The growth rates of total available Community own resources — that is customs duties, agricultural, sugar and isoglucose levies, and 1 per cent. VAT—for the past four years are as follows:

1982 11.08
1983 4.45

The increase between 1980 and 1981is not directly comparable to that for the earlier years since Greece joined the Community on 1January 1981.
