Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many employees in his Department are currently taking part in job-share schemes.

Mr. Younger

No formal job-sharing schemes at present operate within my Departments. The topic is to be discussed with the staff under Whitley council auspices this month.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many vacancies in his Department have been filled through the job release scheme in each of the last three years for which figures are available.

The number of vacancies filled through the job release scheme in my Departments was as follows:

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether any of those working in his Department are young people on the youth training scheme.

Mr. Younger

None at present, but proposals for a Scottish Office youth training scheme have been submitted to the Manpower Services Commission, and its response is expected shortly.

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many employees in his Department are currently allowed day release facilities or other assistance to encourage them to continue their education.

Mr. Younger

369 in the Scottish Office and another 63 in the Scottish prison service.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the total cost to his Department of assistance given to employees to encourage them to continue their education in each of the last three years for which figures are available.
