HC Deb 03 July 1984 vol 63 cc127-8W
59. Mr. Jessel

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will arrange for the Health and Safety Commission's noise caravan to visit the Twickenham constituency.

Mr. Gummer

I have asked the Health and Safety Commission to consider favourably a visit to my hon. Friend's constituency. The current programme for the remainder of 1984 is:

9 July Great Yorkshire show
16 July Burton-on-Trent
23 July Greater Manchester
27 August Sheffield show
10 September Windsor show

Venues in the South West, Wales, Merseyside and the North Midlands in September and October are to be arranged.

In each area the visit of the caravan will be used as a focal point for other activities by local health and safety inspectors. The intention is to bring to the attention of employers and employees the risk of noise-induced hearing loss at the work place, and the solutions which exist, either by designing machinery to eliminate noise or by personal protection.
