Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the revenue to be raised in 1984–85 by the taxation of unemployment benefit.

The yield, in a full year at 1984–85 levels, from taxing benefits paid to the unemployed is estimated at about £700 million.
