HC Deb 02 July 1984 vol 63 c13W
Mr. Greenway

asked the hon. Member for Berwick-upon-Tweed, as representing the House of Commons Commission, what specific experience in catering the House of Commons staff inspector or his assistants have had.

Mr. Beith

Although neither the staff inspector nor his assistants have specific experience in catering, the officer principally concerned with the grading review of the Refreshment Department served for eight years as a staff welfare officer in a Civil Service Department which employs a large number of industrial staff. Moreover, the analytical skills used in staff inspection enable an evaluation to be made of all kinds of work. If specialised professional help is needed at any point in order to understand the technical content of a job, no doubt the staff inspector would draw the matter to the attention of the Commission.
