HC Deb 02 July 1984 vol 63 c3W
Mr. John David Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if, in the Repatriation of Prisoners Bill [Lords], the terms "British Islands" is intended to include the Isle of Man, Channel Islands, and the Republic of Ireland.

Mr. Mellor

By virtue of the Interpretation Act 1978, "British Islands" in subsequent legislation means the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, but not the Republic of Ireland.
