HC Deb 02 July 1984 vol 63 c6W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Prime Minister what recent steps Her Majesty's Government have taken to protect Halvergate marshes.

The Prime Minister

Action to protect landscape in this area is primarily a matter for the Broads Authority which has been making management agreements for the most sensitive areas. However, at the request of the authority, a direction was recently made by right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for the Environment which had the effect of withdrawing planning authorisation for drainage of some 100 acreas of land at Limpenhoe to the west of Halvergate. In addition, consideration is being given to the report of a working party which has been reviewing the long term problems of financing conservation on the Broads.
