HC Deb 02 July 1984 vol 63 cc34-5W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Energy how much of the funding for coal research and development is provided by (a) Her Majesty's Government and (b) the European Economic Community.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The most recent figures for the contribution towards coal research, development and demonstration in the United Kingdom are as follows:

(i) Her Majesty's Government £3 million in financial year 1983–84
(ii) European Economic Community 1.2 mecu—£700,000—in 1983
(iii) European Coal and Steel Community 6.4 mecu—£3.7 million—in 1983

These figures are the payments made during the year and not commitments entered into.
