Mr. Sheerman

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) how many 16-year-old school leavers are without training places or employment at the present time;

(2) how many young people aged 25 years and under have failed to obtain jobs on leaving school, college or university since May 1979;

(3) how many persons aged 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25 years, respectively, are at present without either training scheme or employment.

The information is not available. However, the number of unfilled vacancies at careers offices in Great Britain in each of the last six months of 1983 showed a significant increase over the corresponding monh in 1982.
