§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on his proposals to order plastic naval minehunter ships.
§ Mr. LeeA design has been approved for a new minehunter with a glass-reinforced plastic hull. This will be a low-cost highly efficient ship, taking full advantage of the latest technology. As announced in the debate on the Royal Navy on 28 November 1983—[Vol. 49, c. 451] —it is expected that an order for the first of the class of the single role minehunter will be placed later this year.
