HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 cc14-5W
39. Sir David Price

asked the Minister for the Civil Service how many civil servants are currently holding appointments of permanent secretary rank; how many of them have qualifications in science or engineering; and how these figures compare with 10 years ago.

On 1 January 1984, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 39 permanent secretaries in the Home Civil Service of whom five had qualifications in science and engineering. Ten years earlier there were 44 permanent secretaries, of whom five had science or engineering qualifications.
