HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 c14W
Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Prime Minister, in each of the financial years 1981–82, 1982–83 and 1983–84, what considerations were borne in mind when considering the level of overseas aid to Oman; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

The considerations which are borne in mind in fixing the level of overseas aid to all countries include the amount of domestic resources we can devote to aid, the relative wealth or poverty of the recipient country, the nature of developmental needs and our ability to meet them, the areas in which Britain is best able to assist, and the strength and nature of Britain's relationship with the recipients. These considerations were borne in mind in fixing the level of aid to Oman in the years in question.

Mr. Chris Smith

asked the Prime Minister what representations she has received since 1981 about the award of the contract for Oman university to Cementation Ltd., and its economic value to Oman.

The Prime Minister

None.
