§ Mr. Blairasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) if the Government will establish a regionally based organisation in the North of England with sufficient funds and resources to ensure an effective take-up of new technology by industry;
(2) what proportion of Government research and development contracts went to the Northern region in each of the last five years; and if he will take steps to increase this proportion;
39W(3) if he will take steps to increase the assistance available to small firms and high technology firms wishing to set up in the Northern region.
