asked the Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts whether the Minister for the Arts will provide special resources for the development of information technology in public libraries.

The detailed allocation of resources for library services is a matter for decision by local authorities. While the need to develop information technology in public libraries is recognised it is not possible for my noble Friend the Minister for the Arts to provide special funds for this purpose.
