HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 c92W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if, in the light of recent representations, he will now take steps to ban the sale of arms to Indonesia.

Mr. Luce

As I explained to the House on 25 January, we consider all applications for arms exports very carefully. Human rights are clearly a major factor in these considerations: we do not permit the supply of arms to countries where we believe the items in question are likely to be used to violate human rights. We do not therefore think it would be appropriate to impose a general ban on the sale of arms to Indonesia.
