HC Deb 30 January 1984 vol 53 c107W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what machinery exists for a general practitioner who has applied for a general practice vacancy to make representations on his own behalf to the Medical Practices Committee prior to an application being rejected, after it has been rejected or for a review of the decision.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Regulations provide that the Medical Practices Committee may, if it thinks fit, give applicants, or any of them, an opportunity of making representations in person or in writing before that committee makes its selection. After the MPC has made a selection, a doctor whose application has been refused, may appeal to the Secretary of State. The Secretary of State may, if he thinks fit, hold a hearing of such an appeal.
