asked the Secretary of State for Energy what representations he has received from the gas and electricity industries about the future level of prices.

Mr. Peter Walker

The British Gas Corporation has announced an increase in tariff gas prices from 1 January; the Electricity Council has recommended to the area boards a small increase in domestic tariffs from 1 April and a standstill in tariffs to larger industrial users.
