§ Mr. Pawseyasked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) if he will list the specific maintenance works in respect of Blisworth tunnel which he has accepted for grant aid;
(2) if he has imposed any conditions on the grant-aiding of the maintenance backlog works on the Blisworth tunnel regarding the future frequency of inspection of the structure of the tunnel and its invert.
§ Mr. WaldegraveMy Department approved an estimate of £4.25 million for specific grant expenditure on remedial work for the Blisworth tunnel after a full investigation by the British Waterways Board, which has been left to decide the detailed nature of the work required. We have not imposed any conditions for future inspections86W as this, too, is for the board to decide, having regard to its statutory obligations to meet public health and safety requirements.
