§ Sir George YoungFour housing associations have been approved to let on assured tenancies. Two are sponsored by major building societies—Abbey Housing Association Ltd. (set up by the Abbey National Building Society) and Nationwide Housing Trust Ltd. (set up by the Nationwide Building Society)—and two are satellites of registered housing associations—Kingdomwide Ltd. (an offshoot of the United Kingdom Housing Trust) and Hampton Housing Association Ltd. (an offshoot of Sutton (Hastoe) Housing Association).
87WAbbey Housing Association was approved in December 1980, and currently has 46 assured tenancy lettings. The remaining associations have only recently been approved to let on assured tenancies, and are not yet letting on this basis.
