§ Mr. Wyn RobertsThe reductions in the national insurance surcharge announced in 1982 did not take effect for local authority employers until 6 April 1983. As a consequence, surcharge payable in the present financial year was reduced from 3.5 per cent. to 2.5 per cent., yielding an expenditure saving of approximately £8 million.
