Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of all women manual workers earn less than £100 per week.

Mr. Alan Clark

The most recent information relates to full-time manual women working a full week in April 1983 and is published in table 124 of part E of the report on the 1983 new earnings survey, a copy of which is in the Library.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of female workers in the (a) hairdressing, (b) textile and (c) footwear, clothing and leather industries earn less than £100 per week.

The most recent information relates to full-time female manual and non-manual employees aged 18 and over working a full week in April 1983 and is published in tables 68 and 69 of part C of the report in the new earnings survey, a copy of which is in this Library.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what percentage of the adult average wage was earned by (a) males and (b) females under 18 years of age in 1979, 1980, 1981, 1982 and 1983, respectively.

The percentages in each April between 1979 and 1982 inclusive, relating to the average gross weekly earnings of full-time employees, have been published inEmployment Gazette—June 1983, page 234 —a copy of which is in the Library. The corresponding percentages for April 1983—full-time males under 18 as a percentage of those aged 21 and over, and full-time females aged under 18 as a percentage of those aged 21 and over—were 36.4 and 51.2 respectively.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what was the average percentage pay rise for males under 18 years of age between April 1982 and April 1983; and what was the average increase for adult males.
