HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 cc677-8W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement about the progress of the unemployed voluntary action fund and indicate whether resources will be made available to the fund in 1984–85.

Mr. Younger

The fund was established at my request by the Carnegie United Kingdom Trust in February 1982 and continues to operate very successfully under the trust's management. In under two years, the fund has provided support for over 80 new or developmental projects run by voluntary organisations and aimed particularly at involving unemployed people in activities which directly benefit those in special need in the community.

The response to the scheme continues to be most encouraging and I shall be providing the fund with a further £500,000 for projects in 1984–85. We shall also be reviewing with the trustees whether the aims and detailed arrangements of the scheme need any adjustment in order to make the best possible use of the money available.
