§ Mr. Peter Bruinvelsasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department in which areas within England and Wales the police authority has additional stop and search powers under any local force Act.
§ Mr. HurdPowers of stop and search are available to the police in England and Wales under the following provisions in local legislation:
- Burnley Borough Improvement Act 1871, s. 342.
- City of London Police Act 1839, s. 48.
- County of Merseyside Act 1980, s. 33.
- Hertfordshire County Council Act 1935, s. 130.
- West Midlands County Council Act 1980, s. 40.
The powers are in addition to powers of stop and search conferred in public general legislation—including the Metropolitan Police Act 1839 — and in private legislation promoted by statutory undertakers.
