Mr. Caborn

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list British trade missions to South Africa in each year from 1977 to 1982 which received a grant from his Department or the British Overseas Trade Board; what was the average grant in each year; and what was the total cost of grants.

A list showing the British Overseas Trade Board—BOTB—supported outward missions to South Africa from 1977 to 1982, the average grant per mission and the total cost of grants for each of those years is as follows.

The total cost to the BOTB of grants for missions to South Africa for the period 1977 to 1982 was £461,775.
