HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 c638W
Mr. Hunter

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations have been made to him since his appointment concerning exemptions on the grounds of religion to the Slaughterhouse Acts; and whether he is considering any proposals to make changes in the law relating to those exemptions.

Mrs. Fenner

We have received 37 representations expressing various views on these exemptions. The Farm Animal Welfare Council is at present considering the welfare of animals in slaughterhouses, including religious slaughter aspects, and the Government will of course give most careful consideration to any recommendations they may make. Any action before their report is received would be premature.
