HC Deb 26 January 1984 vol 52 c642W
Mr. John Carlisle

asked the Prime Minister if it is the policy of Her Majesty's Government that Ministers will not attend in their official capacity any forthcoming rugby internationals as an expression of displeasure at the intention of the Rugby Football Union to tour South Africa; and if she will make a statement.

The Prime Minister

No. The Rugby Football Union has yet to decide whether to tour South Africa later this year. The Government have, however, advised against such a tour, in line with our commitment to the Commonwealth statement on apartheid in sport.
