§ Mr. Alfred Morrisasked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many people in the last year for which figures are available received payments of higher rate attendance allowance for a period before they had requested a review of their lower rate allowance; what was the average such period; what was the additional cost; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. NewtonEstimates for 1982, the latest date for which figures are available, are based on a small sample study carried out in 1981. These estimates are: 8,800; 22 weeks; and £1½ million. No decision has been taken on a recommendation in Mr. Oglesby's report that higher rate attendance allowance should not be payable in the circumstances stated.
