§ 19. Mr. Proctorasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether there have been any further developments concerning the release of British citizens currently imprisoned in Angola as mercenaries.
§ Mr. RifkindWe continue to press at the highest level for the early release of the British prisoners. When the Angolan Minister of Planning paid an official visit to London from 11 to 14 December he saw my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister and my right hon. and learned Friend the Foreign Secretary who both urged the importance we attach to early release. The Angolan Government have not yet taken a final decision on the date of release. We are following up the matter energetically.
