HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 cc515-6W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will introduce legislation to prohibit the admissibility under the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act of uncorroborated verbal confessions in trials of scheduled offences and of uncorroborated verbal confessions in trials of scheduled offences and of uncorroborated verbal evidence of witnesses who are either implicated in the crime concerned or are receiving material advantage for so doing.

Mr. Prior

I have no plans to introduce such legislation. In any event the Northern Ireland (Emergency Provisions) Act 1978 is currently the subject of art independent review by Sir George Baker, and I await his recommendations.
