HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 cc485-6W
24. Mr. Neil Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on his discussions with the Trades Union Congress on the matter of the raising of the political levy.

Mr. Alan Clark

My right hon. Friend met members of the employment policy and organisation committee of the TUC on 19 October to discuss the operation of the political levy and the ways in which the trade unions might ensure that their members are able freely and effectively to decide whether or not to pay it. We are not yet in a position to make a statement on the outcome of these discussions.
