HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 c481W
1. Sir Anthony Meyer

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he plans any further legislation to deal with abuses of the closed shop.

Mr. Tom King

The provisions of the 1980 and 1982 Employment Acts that are already in force have halted the spread of the closed shop and provided substantial protection for employees who work in closed shops. After 1 November this year any closed shop which has not been supported in a secret ballot by 80 per cent. of the employees it covers or 85 per cent. of those voting will be without any legal protection.
