HC Deb 24 January 1984 vol 52 c481W
8. Mr. Tom Clarke

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce measures to increase the number of young people entering apprenticeships in the manufacturing industry.

Mr. Peter Morrison

It is for employers to identify and take steps to meet their own long-term training needs. However, the Government have made available under the youth training scheme a considerable amount of money to support young people undergoing the first year of recognised apprenticeship.

32. Mr. John Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will introduce proposals to ensure the continuation of apprenticeships when a firm is faced with closure or bankruptcy.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Financial support is already available through industrial training organisations to help employers recruit and complete the training of apprentices who are made redundant.
