Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he intends to retain the present beds in the casualty department of Altnagelvin hospital.

Mr. Chris Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 19 January 1984, c. 322]: The new accident and emergency department which forms part of the nucleus cluster development at Altnagelvin hospital is due to be completed in July 1984. Decisions on the provision of supporting beds for the new department are a matter for the Western health and social services board.

Mr. William Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what sums he expects to to expend on capital building works at Altnagelvin hospital in the current and next three financial years.

[pursuant to his reply, 19 January 1984, c. 322]: The nucleus cluster development at the hospital is scheduled for completion in July 1984. Work on a second nucleus cluster is planned to start in April 1984 and will take approximately two years to complete.
