HL Deb 19 January 1984 vol 446 c1218WA
Lord Melchett

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many Brent Geese were killed under licence in England in 1982–83 and what approximate percentage of the wintering population this represents; and what approximate percentage of the wintering population of Barnacle Geese on Is lay in Scotland does the 956 geese killed under licence in 1982–83 represent.

The Minister of State, Scottish Office (Lord Gray of Contin)

I am advised by my right honourable friend the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food that the number of Brent Geese killed under licence in England in 1982–83 was 648, representing approximately 0.7 per cent. of the wintering population.

The number of Barnacle Geese killed under licence represents about 7.0 per cent. of the Islay wintering population
