§ Mr. Frank Fieldasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of persons held in custody who have been awaiting trial for more than three months.
§ Mr. HurdThe information requested is not recorded centrally. It is estimated that about 1,500 untried prisoners in prison department establishments in England and Wales on 30 June 1983 had been first remanded in custody more than three months earlier; some time both before and after the first committal to custody may have been spent on bail.
