asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether agreement has been reached between the European Commission and the United States authorities on European Economic Community exports of pipes and tubes to the United States of America.

Yes. Agreement was reached on 10 January 1985. It covers 1985 and 1986 and provides for the European Community to have a 7.6 per cent, share of the US market. Within this, the United Kingdom share is 0.40 per cent.

The agreement represents a significant improvement on the original US quota of 5.9 per cent. However, Her Majesty's Government will monitor its application closely.
